From Rp500.000 for the whole jeep: what is in the price, and what is not

Every package is priced per jeep, not per person. Here is exactly what that covers, and the few extras to keep cash for on the day.

Nothing spoils a good day out like a surprise at the end of it. When guests message us about a jeep tour on Mount Sumbing, the first question is almost always the same: is that price for each person, or for everyone? It is a fair thing to ask, because tour pricing around the world is usually per head. Ours is not, and that single difference changes how you should plan your budget.

Why we price per jeep, not per seat

Every package is priced for one whole jeep, carrying up to 4 people. The jeep is yours for the route: you never share it with strangers, and nobody is squeezed in beside you to fill a seat. Short Trip 1, for example, is Rp500.000 for the jeep. Whether two of you ride or four, the price stays the same.

We like this way of doing it because it is simple to understand. There is no table of child prices, no minimum number of guests and no per-person add-ons to work out. You pick a route, you see one number, and that number is the starting point for your day.

What every package includes

Whichever route you choose, three things are always part of the price:

  • Fuel
  • The jeep
  • Your driver

Fuel matters more than it sounds. Mountain tracks are slow and steep, and the longer routes cover a lot of ground, so it is a real cost. Having it inside the price means you will not be asked to chip in at a petrol stop halfway through the morning. Your driver is the other half of the story: they know the tracks, the bends and the best places to stop for a photo, and they are with you for the whole route.

What the price does not cover

A few costs are paid separately on the day, and it is better to know about them now than to discover them at a gate. They are small compared with the jeep itself, but worth keeping cash for.

  • Entry tickets to the tourist spots
  • The motorbike taxi (ojek) at Sukomakmur
  • Photo or video documentation

Entry tickets

The places on our routes are tourist spots, and some of them charge their own entrance fee. That money goes to the village or site, not to us, which is why it sits outside the jeep price. The fee depends on the stop, so the more stops on your route, the more of these you may meet.

The ojek at Sukomakmur

At Sukomakmur, the last stretch is done by motorbike taxi rather than by jeep. It is a short, fun ride and many guests count it among the highlights, but it is paid directly to the ojek riders on the spot.

Photo and video

If you would like a photographer or video documentation of your trip, that is an extra. Plenty of guests simply use their own phones, and with views like these, that works well too.

Splitting the cost between friends

Because the price is per jeep, it gets friendlier the fuller the jeep is. Here is how the main routes work out when four people share:

PackageStopsPer jeepEach, if 4 share
Short Trip 12Rp500.000Rp125.000
Short Trip 22Rp500.000Rp125.000
Short Trip 32Rp550.000Rp137.500
Medium Trip4Rp650.000Rp162.500
Long Trips 1 and 25Rp850.000Rp212.500
Long Trip 37Rp1.000.000Rp250.000

The Sunrise Package starts from Rp600.000 per jeep and follows the same logic. If you are travelling as a couple, the same route simply costs more per person, so it is worth thinking about whether another pair of friends or family could join you. Not sure which route fits? Our guide on how to pick your jeep route walks through each option.

How much cash should you bring?

We do not want to give you a made-up figure, because the entry fees change from stop to stop and the number depends on your route. A sensible approach is simple: bring a little more cash than you think you need, split into small notes. Small notes make it easy to pay entrance fees and the ojek without waiting for change. Keep your phone for photos and your cash somewhere zipped, since an open-air jeep gets bumpy.

If you are not sure what the entry fees will be for your route, ask us when you book. We are happy to tell you what to expect before you set off, and the open-air jeep packing list covers the rest of what to bring.

What if your group is bigger than four?

One jeep carries a maximum of 4 people, so larger groups book more than one jeep.

That is a hard limit, and it is there for comfort and safety. A group of eight books two jeeps, and each jeep is priced the same as any other. The upside is that everyone gets proper space and a good view, and the jeeps travel the route together. Tell us your group size when you send an enquiry and we will confirm that enough jeeps are available for your date.

Booking and questions

Booking is just a message. Send us your date, how many people are coming and which route you have in mind, and we will confirm availability and the price. If you are still comparing, look through all our packages, or read about the seven stops to see what each route actually visits.

The short version of everything above: one price per jeep, fuel, jeep and driver included, and a little cash set aside for tickets, the ojek and photos. That is the whole picture, with no surprises on the day.
